# About me

Hey, I’m Jonathan Speek. I’m a Technical Product Lead at [Fastly](https://fastly.com/), focused on AI across the platform. I’m based in Colorado.

My background spans engineering, design, and product, which shapes how I approach building software. I care deeply about clear UX, measurable impact, and systems that scale without becoming hostile to the people using them.

Before Fastly, I was a Senior Software Engineer at [Netlify](https://netlify.com/), where I worked on core UI features and later joined the Growth team, running controlled experiments to improve activation and adoption. Earlier in my career, I helped build and maintain the Bonsai Design System at [Cognizant](https://cognizant.com/) Accelerator, and spent time as a Product Designer doing user research, competitive analysis, and rapid prototyping. I started out at [Aljex Software](https://aljex.com/), rebuilding an accounting application in Ruby on Rails with a small team in Boulder.

Outside of tech, I’m a musician. In 2014, after graduating from [Carnegie Mellon University](https://www.cmu.edu/), I co-founded a professional brass ensemble in Pittsburgh called [The Brass Roots](https://thebrassroots.com/), which is still performing today. I’ve played with orchestras, wind ensembles, and brass groups across the U.S., in venues ranging from Carnegie Hall to Arrowhead Stadium, and yes, once on a raft in Lake Michigan.

These days, I’m interested in thoughtful product leadership, well-designed platforms, and building things that are both useful and humane.
